Appearing before a Parliamentary Committee

It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to testify before a Parliamentary Committee. But you need to be prepared. In general, you will be invited to make opening remarks for 10 minutes and then the members of the committee will ask questions. You will likely be testifying with other witnesses and it is always advisable to ask the clerk whether there will be other witnesses.

You will be translated into the other official language and the translators appreciate it if you can bring with you at least one copy of your oral remarks and give it to them prior to your appearance.

Both the House of Commons and the Senate  have posted on their websites guidelines for appearing before a committee. It is advisable to read these and prepare your remarks accordingly.
