Preparing Students for Life and Ministry

Active, informed discipleship

Bethany College isn’t alone in its size, location or overall aim. What invites you to take a closer look is our emphasis on active, informed discipleship. Our mission is to nurture disciples and train leaders to serve. We integrate quality, accredited learning with active service within a framework of over 30 combinations of majors and concentrations, including our most recent, Restorative Justice. In dorm life and classrooms, sports and artistic endeavours, student leadership and service learning trips, nurturing disciples is central.

In addition, students tell us that what makes Bethany stand out is community life! We know that discipleship happens best in connection with others, and thus students are given opportunity to thrive in this close-knit community.

Joshua Kehler, student, said, “Aside from the great teachers, awesome classes [and] the fantastic food, the community is the biggest reason to come. The people here are very intentional about investing in your life, and there are so many different ways to serve here.”

At Bethany, we repeatedly see how God uses these aspects to bring about amazing transformation in our students. Whether you come for a two-year diploma or a four-year BA degree, you can expect your time at Bethany College to yield lasting change and preparation for life.

Offering new programs

Briercrest College and Seminary has expanded its outstanding university-level programs for next year.

Two new programs will be offered – a BA in psychology, and Imprint, a creative arts program for first-year students, which is located at the beautiful Muskoka Woods Resort in Rosseau, ON. With the BA psychology degree you can start applying what you are learning while you are studying. It is a program that you can apply to your life, your career, your family or your ministry.

Imprint will help young artists engage their Christian faith in the pursuit of their art. Expand your portfolio with Imprint’s co-curricular activities: photography, pottery, painting, sketching, film and video. Students will kayak on Georgian Bay, go on mission trips and tour art galleries in North America and Europe.

All of Briercrest’s programs call students to a relationship with Jesus Christ as they become leaders and disciples who serve with distinction. Faculty and students share a passion for learning together, for studying the scriptures and for preparing for lives of service. Join over 20,000 former students who have discovered the Briercrest experience – outstanding Christian education that equips you to do what you are passionate about.

One-year intensive Bible school training

Nestled among the Gulf Islands of British Columbia’s west coast, Capernwray Harbour Bible Centre on Thetis Island offers students a unique learning experience.

We give sound, practical Bible teaching, focusing on both the Old and New Testament scriptures in which God reveals the indwelling, resurrected Christ as the Christian life. Students gain an experiential knowledge of Christ and how His presence practically applies to daily living.

Through classroom studies, tutorials, dialogue-based small-group studies and summary journals, students have opportunity to share what God is teaching from the written Word them and how He is working in their lives. Many outreach opportunities in surrounding communities and cities, as well as international, short-term missions trips, are available for students to participate in.

Capernwray Harbour welcomes people of all denominational backgrounds and nationalities. The student body of approximately 100 students join the full-time staff to create a community intent on knowing Jesus Christ as life. The desire of every staff member at Capernwray Harbour is to prepare each student for “full-time Christian service, regardless of occupation.”

Communicating biblical truth

Heritage is one school with two distinct divisions. The college provides high school graduates with general and theological education that prepares them for various ministry vocations or further education. The seminary provides college and university graduates with theological education that equips them to plant, teach and lead the Church or to advance the work of parachurch ministries.

College students can earn various certificates or degrees with a focus on musical worship ministry, child and family ministry, youth and family ministry, world missions or pastoral ministry. Pastoral students can apply for a two-year internship that provides both academic credit and focused, on-the-job learning about the real world of ministry. All this occurs in a community of students and faculty who are deeply committed to the worldwide mission of the Church.

Most seminary students pursue either the MTS degree (general theological studies) or the MDiv degree (pastoral preparation), but others are studying just for personal enrichment. Studies are done with faculty, who are scholars in service of the Church, committed to help students understand and communicate biblical truth in a way that causes gospel-driven churches to flourish.
