Office of Religious Freedom Needed

The EFC’s Don Hutchinson appeared on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin on January 23 and on CTV’s National Affairs on Jan. 4 to discuss the need for the federal government’s proposed Office of Religious Freedom. The EFC has been calling for such an office for a decade. Watch the TVO video (NEW! 37 minutes long, includes option to leave comments) and the CTV video (10 minutes, but jump ahead to the 2.5 minute mark).

What's New

Family-based Tax Relief
The EFC has posted the first of three blogs reflecting on aspects of Canada's federal budget. The EFC will appear before a House of Commons committee on Feb. 14 to present its complete pre-budget submission.

Questions on Ontario Bullying Legislation
The EFC recently sent an open letter to all members of the Ontario legislature, calling for amendments to Bill 13, Accepting Schools Act. The bill is legally problematic and unnecessarily broad. See a related letter to the editor.

Pray for Egypt Summit
The World Evangelical Alliance will hold a summit on Egypt Feb. 7-8. One year after the revolution in Egypt, tension and fear remain widespread. See also EFC international prayer alerts.

Does Christian Commitment Make a Difference?
What does social scientific research say about the Church in Canada and the difference Christian commitment makes? Sam Reimer of Atlantic Baptist University examines this question (in his review of Kurt Bowen's helpful book on Christians and the Canadian cultural landscape) in the EFC's online publication, Church and Faith Trends.
