EFC CONDEMNS ACT OF TERROR IN QUEBEC

The EFC has condemned the act of terror against those attending prayers on Sunday, January 29, at the Centre cultural islamique du Québec. Targeting people in a place of worship is a particularly heinous act. We are praying for the families of the victims and for those recovering from their wounds, and we are also praying for the Muslim community in Quebec and across Canada. We are committed to strive for tolerance and respect for all and to continue to work side by side with our Muslim neighbours for peace and the betterment of Canada.

DEBATE ON PALLIATIVE CARE BILL TODAY

Pray for private member’s Bill C-277, which will be debated today in the House of Commons. This bill requires a palliative care framework to be developed, which would increase caregiver support and data collection, as well as identify palliative care education and training needs. Only 30% of Canadians who need palliative care have access to it. See the EFC’s sample letter of support for Bill C-277 and ask your MP to support increased palliative care in Canada.

LETTER TO NEWLY APPOINTED MINISTER OF IMMIGRATION, REFUGEES AND CITIZENSHIP

The EFC has written a letter to the Hon. Ahmed D. Hussen congratulating him on his recent appointment as Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

BUILDING OUR WHOLE SOCIETY

How can our society ensure public space for diverse perspectives and practices? Can we advance beyond simple toleration of religious and other differences to embrace a wider respect for all citizens? These are some of the questions to be addressed in a multifaith conference supported by the EFC. Join the discussion May 8–9, 2017 in Ottawa. Learn more at OurWholeSociety.ca.

BREAK FORTH CONFERENCE

The EFC’s Ben Porter attended the Break Forth Canada conference on behalf of Love Is Moving magazine this past weekend. Break Forth Canada is Canada’s largest ecumenical church conference. We are thankful for the opportunity to build relationships and partnerships there.

CALL TO ACTION ON GOVERNMENT PORN STUDY

Parliament recently passed a motion calling on the standing committee on health to study the public health effects of easily accessible, violent and degrading sexually explicit material online. This crucial study ought to receive the attention that this issue demands. Please view our two-minute video to see how you can help.
