Contact Your MP Now on Canada Summer Jobs

Now is the perfect time to contact your MP. You may be able to meet with them in person during the summer. Please ask them to push for changes to make next year's Canada Summer Jobs application more fair. Find out how to contact your MP here. Our Canada Summer Jobs page has a simple summary of the issues (talking points) and a sample letter you can revise and send to your MP.

How is your ability to serve your community being affected by the Canada Summer Jobs change this summer? Can we share your story to raise awareness about the impact? Email us at socialmedia@TheEFC.ca.

Submission to Government on Palliative Care Framework

What's a good definition for palliative care? How does it relate to euthanasia and medical assistance in dying? What role should religious volunteers play? In a submission to Health Canada last week, the EFC addresses such questions. The government had asked for input on such issues and intends to issue a report on its findings in September. Download a PDF of the six-page EFC submission to read.

Survival Habits of the Soul

Ken Shigematsu is the pastor of Tenth Church in Vancouver and author of Survival Guide for the Soul (Zondervan, 2018). In the latest issue of Faith Today, he acknowledges how easy it is to find our value in our own achievements instead of in God’s unconditional love, and he introduces us to three spiritual practices that can help us feel loved and whole. His article is republished with permission from the EFC magazine Faith Today, Jul/Aug 2018. Subscribe to read more articles like this.

Your Stories of Palliative Care: Melinda Crawford

The EFC is publishing a series of personal experience stories in support of our free new Palliative Care Toolkit. This week you can read the story of Melinda Crawford of Whitby, Ont., who writes about looking after her mother, and what a blessing it was to her to spend six of her last weeks at home. Read her story and others in the series at TheEFC.ca.

Do you have an experience with palliative care that you’d be willing to share? Email us to tell us about it. To say thank you, we’ll give you a free one-year subscription to Faith Today, Canada’s Christian magazine. We’re also publishing these Stories of Palliative Care on the Faith Today blog.

Dispatch from Brian Stiller: Global Christian Forum

"We also lost potential in working together to do good within our communities. That’s why recent days spent in Bogota Columbia, as part of the Global Christian Forum, were important. Various major groupings of the global church met to affirm friendship and strengthen Christian witness and bonds in the life of Jesus." Read more.

Dispatch from Brian Stiller: African Children Singing Us into Pentecost
