The EFC in Court for Doctors Conscience Case

In a case that could have broad implications for freedom of religion and conscience, the EFC is in court this week supporting the challenge to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s policy requiring doctors to provide an effective referral for assisted suicide, regardless of whether this violates the conscience or religion of the doctors. The EFC is intervening along with the Ontario Assembly of Catholic Bishops and the Christian Legal Fellowship, in support of the doctors and three doctors’ associations who have launched a Charter challenge to the policy. Across the world, Ontario is the only jurisdiction permitting assisted suicide that requires its doctors to be involved if patients ask.

In the May/June Faith Today, staff from the Tyndale Intercultural Ministries Centre (TIM) share the highlights from a conversation with nine immigrant church planters who gathered at The People’s Church to help more established churches learn from their ministries.
