Faith Today Wins Multiple Awards at Canadian Church Press Convention

Faith Today magazine picked up six editorial awards and three design awards last Friday night at the Canadian Church Press convention.

First place awards for magazine column (Go With God, by Carolyn Arends) and for service journalism (Stability Is the Key: Helping Children After a Divorce, by Alex Newman).

Second place awards for biblical interpretation (You Anoint My Head With Oil: What a Bronze Age warrior-king can teach us about friends and enemies, by Mark A. Buchanan, magazine news story (Rev. Lim and the Church that Prayed Him Out, by Craig Macartney) and for personal experience feature (Welcoming Refugees in Uganda) by Karen Durling Stiller.  

Third place awards for magazine editorial (Church Is Not a Private Club, by Bruce Clemenger) and for opinion article (Fearless: Christians are part of culture, and culture is part of us, by Anna Robbins).

Congratulations to all who worked on these winning entries, and of course to all the other winners at other magazines and newspapers. Kudos also to our awesome designer Janice Van Eck for two second place finishes and a third place among our level of magazines (circulation above 10,000)!

Canada Summer Jobs Update

The federal government has released the list of employers approved to receive a Canada Summer Jobs grant. A very small number of objecting groups who checked the box and added an alternate attestation or letter have been approved. If your organization has been approved for a CSJ grant even though the wording of the attestation was altered or a letter was included, please let the EFC know at feedback@theefc.ca.

EFC President in Victoria, Vice-President at National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa

This week, EFC President Bruce Clemenger is participating in the annual meeting of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, in Victoria, B.C. (live online at https://paoc.org/live).

This morning, EFC Vice-President and Resident Theologian David Guretzki was in Ottawa for the National Prayer Breakfast. This annual Christian event is offered under the auspices of the Speaker of the Senate on behalf of the Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast Group. It allows elected public officials to gather together with men and women from different backgrounds to pray and connect through a shared faith in Jesus Christ.

Trinity Western Decision Expected Soon

"Nothing Trinity Western University does is unlawful. The community covenant is not unlawful and this court confirmed that in 2001." —Lawyer Albertos Polizogopoulos in the Supreme Court of Canada this December.  As Canada awaits the Trinity Western decision, watch this video clip that gives a fascinating glimpse into the Supreme Court and our team of interveners in this case.
