New bill to stop MAiD for mental illness

Bill C-218 was introduced last Friday, just before the House of Commons began its summer break. A law allowing euthanasia for mental illness alone has already passed and will take effect in March 2027 unless a bill is passed to stop it. MP Tamara Jansen has introduced Bill C-218 to remove the provisions that allow MAiD for mental illness alone. This kind of private member’s bill only passes with broad support. Call or write your MP to ask for support for Bill C-218. See the EFC’s resources at TheEFC.ca/C218.

EFC letter to energy and natural resources minister highlights Reconciliation Proclamation

The EFC, in partnership with the Seven Commitments Working Group, has sent a letter to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. The letter highlighted the Reconciliation Proclamation as foundational to the EFC’s learning and journey toward right relationship with Indigenous peoples and encouraged the minister to work together in respectful nation-to-nation partnership with Indigenous peoples, ensuring a seat at the table in all decisions that impact their rights, interests, communities and lands.
