Webinar Tomorrow: Youth Renegotiating Faith in Christian Postsecondary Schools

The newly released Renegotiating Faith research offers insights into how Canadian young adults reach maturity in life and faith, and the role that churches, mentors and pastors play. But are there differences in faith and maturity for youth who attend Christian post-secondary schools? What affects do Bible college, seminary and the like have on Christian identity formation? What do parents and pastors need to know about the opportunities and challenges for youth who attend those institutions?

Sign up to join us tomorrow, Nov. 28 at noon EST, for this webinar hosted by Karen Stiller. Our expert guests include Rick Hiemstra, director of research for the EFC and lead researcher for Renegotiating Faith; Bruce Guenther, associate professor of church history and Mennonite studies at Trinity Western University; and Justin Cooper, executive director of Christian Higher Education Canada.

MAID and Mature Minors: Reasons Not to Expand Access

Parliament will soon receive reports on whether to expand access to medical assistance in dying (MAID) in three major areas: to mature minors, to those with mental illness as the sole underlying medical condition, and by advance directive.

The EFC submitted a brief which outlines academic research and opinion that expressed key concerns about expanding MAID in these ways. Here is an excerpt which summarizes some of the reasons not to expand access to MAID to mature minors.

A Story of Faithfulness with Canada Summer Jobs

"This donation brought the total to $40,000, but I questioned if we could actually raise the remaining $60,000. I decided only God was going to make this possible. Less than 1 minute after I hit ‘Send,’ my phone rang.”

Dave Addison, executive director of EFC affiliate Toronto City Mission, describes God's faithfulness in providing for summer camp ministry after his organization refused to sign the Canada Summer Jobs attestation.

The Rich History and Profitability of Church Cookbooks

Has your church ever published a cookbook? Such books are valuable for many reasons, from raising funds to providing a living history of churches and communities, explains Faith Today senior writer Alex Newman. Her new article also includes a link to our Facebook recipe group, the Faith Today Fabulous Church Recipe Swap.  With Christmas around the corner, what better time to visit this group to check out others’ favourite recipes and share your own Christmas potluck recipes?

Now is a great time to go beyond the occasional online article from Faith Today. Print subscriptions are available for a special buy-one-get-one offer, but only until Christmas. Give someone a year's worth of Canada's best Christian journalism for $29.99, and you'll get a second subscription at no cost that you can give to someone else or keep for yourself. Discount offer available for four short weeks at www.FaithToday.ca/2for1 or call toll-free 1-866-302-3362.
