New Bill Would Provide Conscience Protection for Health Care Professionals

A new private member’s bill would provide specific conscience protection for health care professionals who object to participating in euthanasia or assisted suicide. Bill C-418, introduced by MP David Anderson, clarifies that health care professionals must not be compelled to participate, directly or indirectly, in medical assistance in dying. Read the letter of support for Bill C-418 sent by the EFC today.

EFC to Intervene in Alberta Case on Religious Freedom

The EFC is intervening in an Alberta Court of Appeal case involving a group of faith-based schools and parents. The group has applied for a temporary injunction to have some portions of Alberta’s Bill 24, An Act to Support Gay-Straight Alliances not apply to faith-based schools in the province pending a review of the legislation's constitutionality. The lower court ruling was announced June 27, 2018. The EFC is intervening in the appeal of the case to argue in support of religious freedom and parental rights. Learn more and download the EFC's legal arguments (factum) filed Nov. 5, 2018.

EFC Speakers at Parliament of the World’s Religions Last Week

Several EFC speakers presented at the Parliament of the World's Religions, a conference in Toronto this week. The EFC’s Julia Beazley, along with Glendyne Gerrard of Defend Dignity, presented on Nov. 2 on the subject of Taking Down the House: The Fight to End Sexual Exploitation. The EFC’s Karen Stiller was part of a panel on Nov. 5 called Discerning 'Dignity of Women' in a World Marred by Violence, Patriarchy, and Injustice. This panel discussed how we tell the stories of vulnerable women well, in a way that doesn't detract from their dignity. The EFC’s Manuel Boehm, together with a partner of the Peace and Reconciliation Network, presented how modelling peace, as Jesus did, through peace camps in conflict regions of the world brings Christian volunteers together with other multi-ethnic, multi-faith future leaders for peace.

EFC's Julia Beazley in Moncton this Weekend

The EFC's Julia Beazley is the speaker at a parents' forum in Moncton this Saturday morning on the topic of pornography, titled What Every Parent Needs to Know. The forum begins at 9 a.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Hildegard Drive. More information is available on the church's website.

Webinar: Youth Renegotiating Faith in Christian Postsecondary Schools

The newly released Renegotiating Faith research offers insights into how Canadian young adults reach maturity in life and faith, and the role that churches, mentors and pastors play. There is more though. How are faith and maturity different for youth who attend Christian post-secondary schools? How is Christian identity formed in the midst of bible college and graduate theological school? What do parents and pastors need to know about the opportunities and challenges for youth who attend those institutions?

Sign up now to join us Wed. Nov. 28 at noon EST with our expert guests Rick Hiemstra, director of research for the EFC and lead researcher for Renegotiating Faith; Bruce Guenther, associate professor of church history and Mennonite studies at Trinity Western University; and Justin Cooper, executive director of Christian Higher Education Canada. With host Karen Stiller.
