In support of Bill S-211 against forced labour

Dear Senator Miville-Dechêne,

The EFC is pleased to support Bill S-211, which would require companies to report on their efforts to ensure their supply chains are free of slavery and would allow for a ban on goods produced by forced labour or child labour.

Human trafficking – whether for forced labour or sexual exploitation - exploits a person by threats of violence, use of force, deception or coercion. It exploits vulnerable people and violates human dignity.

As Christians, we believe God calls us to care for those who are vulnerable, to seek justice and to free those who are oppressed. We must respect and uphold each person’s dignity and worth, never treat them as objects for our gratification or profit.

We support and are grateful for your efforts to raise awareness of forced labour and child labour in the supply chain, and to prevent the distribution of products made by these means in Canada.

Sincerely,

Julia Beazley
Director, Public Policy
