EFC Letter to the Justice Minister

The EFC has written to the Justice Minister in support of a call to study and combat online hate. The EFC’s letter noted the increase in hate crimes, and stressed that such a study must carefully and clearly define hate in light of free speech protections.

EFC Granted Intervener Status in Lamb Case

The EFC has been granted intervener status in the Lamb case in B.C., which involves attempts to expand access to assisted suicide and euthanasia. The case will be argued before the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The EFC is intervening with the Christian Legal Fellowship.

City Movement: Waybase Intro and Tour

The EFC is a sponsor of Insights to Impact, a 30-city tour across Canada from February to May. All leaders from churches and Christian organizations are invited to these gatherings. This tour is in collaboration with Alpha Canada, Ending Poverty Together, the Global Leadership Summit, and a network of national student ministries. At these gatherings, they will: present new data on the activities and trends of Christian ministries in each city; introduce a new data-driven search engine called WayBase that has profiles for 27,000 Christian ministries across Canada (including yours) and how it will let people more easily find you and help you partner on causes. Show how working together can have a measurable impact on your community.

Go to citymovement.org/tour/ to see the full list of cities and dates and to register to attend.

Write to Protect the Conscience Rights of Healthcare Workers

The EFC is a member of the Coalition for Healthcare and Conscience, which is asking the government of Saskatchewan to protect healthcare workers from being compelled to participate in euthanasia or assisted suicide. See the Coalition’s website for more information.

Dispatch from Brian Stiller: Turkey’s Jewel

Brian Stiller stumbled across a rare jewel while visiting Turkey. More precious than a gemstone, this book summarized the teachings of Christianity, collaboratively written by five heads of Christian churches. Stiller writes, “As I held this special tool of the Spirit, I learned it came about that as they worked together, they discovered in each other an authentic witness of Christ and the loving presence of his Spirit and when they did, they chose to lay aside their historic animosities. Might this be a prototype for Christians in other countries?”

Permanent Job Opportunity: Social Media Coordinator

The EFC is now accepting applications for a permanent, paid, part-time position as Social Media Coordinator. The position holder will be responsible to work ten hours per week posting content, designing graphics, writing copy, scheduling posts and implementing a social media plan for the EFC and its ancillary communication streams including those of its magazine Faith Today. The work can be done from a home office or EFC offices in Ottawa or Richmond Hill, Ont. At least one year of experience is required, demonstrating a proven track record of innovative, creative social media use. Training on the EFC's current social media tools will also be available. Applications are welcome until Feb. 15 or when the job is filled. For a full job description and how to apply, see www.TheEFC.ca/Jobs.

Who Knows? Learning from King David to Pray Big Prayers

In the Bible there are no trivial prayers: "No one prays for a good deal on a used chariot. No one prays for wisdom on the selection of window coverings." Steve Peck shares how we can learn from King David to pray big prayers.
