Join the EFC’s Book Discussion on Reaching Emerging Adults

Even if you haven’t read the book, please join us next Tuesday night. We're hosting an online book discussion on the theme of reaching and keeping unchurched emerging adults. And you're invited! On May 18 we'll host a panel with author Beth Seversen to discuss her book Not Done Yet: Reaching and Keeping Unchurched Emerging Adults (www.ivpress.com/not-done-yet). Register now to join us from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Eastern time to hear from the author, discuss the book in small groups and then engage in a live Q and A with her. Co-hosted by the EFC and Youth Worker Community. There’s still time to order a digital version of the book if you want to read it before the discussion, but even if you don’t read it, you are welcome and will benefit.

Covid-19 Prayer Prompts for Friday@4

The EFC has begun to offer weekly prayer suggestions at TheEFC.ca/Covid-19. While you can of course pray about these topics anytime, the EFC is promoting a special communal time of each Friday at 4:00 p.m. Please consider setting a reminder and then praying at the same hour in your time zone along with other Christians.

June 16 Covid Prayer Event

EFC President Bruce Clemenger and Prayer Ambassador Roger Helland are facilitating an EFC affiliate-wide Zoom Prayer Gathering specifically for Covid-19 on June 16, 11:00 am – 12:00 noon (ET). With designated worship and large group prayer leaders and small group breakout rooms, we will pray with and for those affected by Covid: for those infected and those who’ve suffered loss, for front-line medical personnel, for the psychological, social and economic impact, and for pastors and churches. The Zoom link will be sent out soon to all EFC affiliates.

Bill C-268: Protection of Freedom of Conscience Act

Bill C-268 is expected to be debated soon. This bill would create an offense in the Criminal Code making it illegal to compel a doctor or other health care professional to take part, directly or indirectly, in the provision of medical assistance in dying. For more information and a sample letter to send to your MP, visit our Bill C-268 page.

New Podcast: Mark Noll and that Weird Word “Evangelical”

Among many other books, Mark Noll wrote 1994's important Scandal of the Evangelical Mind. His latest book came out in 2019: Evangelicals: Who They Have Been, Are Now, and Could Be (with George Marsden and David Bebbington). We reviewed the book in the March/Apr Faith Today and we thought it would be cool to have a conversation with Mark Noll about evangelicalism: the movement and the word. Listen to Noll’s podcast conversation with Bill Fledderus and Karen Stiller of Faith Today.

Dispatch from WEA Ambassador: A New Global Leader for Evangelicals

“Someone in the line of the Huguenots—the French Protestants who had to flee from persecution in the 16th and 17th centuries—has shown up to remind us what today’s priorities for Christian witness should be.” Read Brian Stiller’s article introducing Thomas Schirrmacher, the new Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance.

The FT Interview with Brian Doerksen

Brian Doerksen is a songwriter/recording artist in B.C. His songs "Come, Now Is the Time to Worship" and "Hope of the Nations" are known worldwide. He recently spoke at length with Karen Stiller of Faith Today about leading worship with a whisper and his latest project Hymns for Life.
