Write MPs, Join Dec. 1 Prayer about Medical Assistance in Dying

A change in the law allowing medical assistance in dying (MAiD) for mental illness alone will come into effect this March. The EFC is calling on Canadian Christians to ask their Members of Parliament to stop the expansion. See the EFC's media release and action kit for more information.

You can also join the EFC Nationwide Prayer for MAiD, an online event Dec. 1 at 11:00 a.m. ET. (8 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. MT / 10 a.m. CT / Noon AT / 12:30 NL).

New Podcast Season Kicks Off

Do you ever think about writing your life story? Dipping your toes into the waters of memoir? A lot of us do, and for good reason. We can share our stories with our children or extended family, or even just use this kind of important writing as a way to understand ourselves and our place in the world better.

Carla Funk is a Canadian poet and memoirist who is author of Every Little Scrap and Wonder and most recently Mennonite Valley Girl: A Wayward Coming of Age. She joins us to share the value of this kind of writing and provide practical tips and strategies to start writing our life stories, and keep writing.

Advocating for Human Dignity (Faith Today article)

“Society and our governing laws must be travelling in the direction of defending human dignity, not eroding it.” In light of an Ontario court challenge to Canada’s current prostitution laws, EFC President Bruce Clemenger explains why “indifference on issues such as prostitution” should not be an option for Christians. This Week’s EFC Prayer Prompts

This week’s prayer request is about palliative care. Sometimes it seems MAiD is a more accessible solution to pain than good palliative care. Statistics suggest only 30% of Canadians who need palliative care have access to it. Pray for those who provide palliative care in our stretched medical system, and for those who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. May they know life is precious, and may God enable decisionmakers to expand offerings of psychosocial, spiritual and physical support for those who are ill and their caregivers.

This week’s affiliate highlighted for prayer is the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Canada, which exists “to engage, encourage, and equip Christian doctors and dentists to glorify God by integrating faith in practice.”

You can always find the week’s prayer prompts at TheEFC.ca/TakeAction. Also, we offer new pandemic-focused prayer ideas each month at TheEFC.ca/Covid-19.
