EFC Update Newsletter February 17

17 February 2026

Youth ministry workers needed for survey

Are you involved in Canadian youth ministry? Influencing Faith, a research partnership of 11 EFC affiliate organizations, is seeking youth ministry workers and youth for a study about how social media use affects youth in youth ministry. The research also explores how youth ministry workers use social media in their ministries.

The deadline to complete both the youth leaders survey and youth survey is April 30. Parents must be notified before the surveys are sent to youth.

Netflix film opens doors to engage neighbours

One of the most popular animated feature films in 2025 was K-Pop Demon Hunters. This Canadian-led Netflix musical has opportunities for Christians to engage with neighbours over pop culture. Read a reflection by Adam Kline at FaithToday.ca/BooksandCulture.

Webinar on healthier online habits

The EFC is co-sponsoring a free webinar Feb. 18 with Defend Dignity and Ally Global. Expert guest Val Caldwell will focus on building healthier online habits, including setting boundaries, managing FOMO, anxiety, and breaking the cycle of endless scrolling. The webinar will look at the risks of relying on AI companions and online validation to meet emotional needs, highlighting stronger alternatives rooted in real connection and purpose. Register now.

Pray this Sunday for Ukraine

The Canadian Council of Churches, the EFC and the WEA’s Peace and Reconciliation Network Canada have signed a letter reaffirming calls to action for Canadian Christians ahead of the four-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They are also encouraging denominations, churches and prayer networks to set aside a day of prayer for Ukraine on Feb. 22.

Bill C-9 update

The House of Commons is on a break week, so MPs will be in their ridings and the Justice Committee will not be meeting to review Bill C-9. Please continue to pray about Bill C-9. This is a good opportunity to call or meet with your MP.

See the EFC’s two-page summary of the bill and our primary concerns (in English, French or Chinese). Additional resources are online at TheEFC.ca/C-9
