Webinar at Noon Today
Join us today at 12 p.m. EDT for a “round up” conversation on some of the issues the EFC is working on this fall. We will catch up on the latest information on medical assistance in dying, pornography, religious discrimination, Bill C51, and others. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from Julia Beazley, the EFC’s director of public policy.
Conscience Protection in Manitoba
In our latest Three Questions Series blog article, we asked Larry Worthen of the Coalition for HealthCARE and Conscience to explain the conscience protection situation in Manitoba. The Manitoba government’s proposed Bill 34 states that no individual can be required to provide or aid in providing assisted suicide. A Call for Conscience Campaign is being held in Manitoba, encouraging supporters to contact their MLA and urge them to support Bill 34. This campaign is supported by the EFC and nine other national organizations who are also concerned about this issue.
EFC on Global Missions Podcast
The EFC's Rick Hiemstra was on the Global Missions Podcast recently, sharing the results of a recent study about how evangelicals engage with "mission" or "missions.” Rick analyzed pastors and churchgoers’ thoughts about missions, summarized some of the trends and suggested some ways that Christ-followers can respond. Listen to the podcast online.
EFC’s Julia Beazley a Panelist for Pornography Talk
The EFC’s Julia Beazley is a panelist for “LUST: Pornography—What’s Right, What’s Wrong?” on September 27 at the Halifax Public Library. The discussion is part of a series on Seven Deadly Sins that the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs is hosting. Other panelists include Dr. Jacqueline Gahagan and MP Arnold Viersen. Viewers from across Canada will be able to watch the event live on the CCEPA YouTube channel.
Watch Love Is Moving on Friday Nights
This week’s episode of Outside the Box with Sheldon Neil includes Alyssa Esparaz, writer for Love Is Moving magazine and anti-poverty advocate for Compassion Canada. Outside the Box explores how Christ’s love is at work in communities in Canada. If you have a young person in your life, encourage them to check out this show every Friday at 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m on YesTV.
Thoughts on a Debate
On September 15, EFC staff attended a debate on the question, “Is God a figment of our imagination?” Karen Stiller, Senior Editor at Faith Today, moderated the event between Alister McGrath (a well-known Christian theologian and apologist) and Michael Shermer (editor-in-chief of Skeptic magazine). David Guretzki, Executive Vice President and Resident Theologian, represented the EFC. Read David’s and Karen’s thoughts on the event.
Faith Today Interview: Shaila Visser
In the Sept./Oct. issue of Faith Today, we interviewed Shaila Visser, the national director of Alpha Canada. One of the most important aspects of Alpha, says Shaila, is a culture of hospitality. She explains that instead of thinking about the next best program, the church should ask, “What does it mean to lead in our communities with love, and extend radical hospitality?”
