Essay and Video Contest for Young Adults

Love Is Moving, Canada's Christian youth magazine, is sponsoring an exciting contest with some great prizes. It invites Canadians age 18 to 35 to write an article (500-1500 words) or create a video (5 minutes or less) and submit it by Sept. 20. Grand prize is $500 and a trip to Montreal Oct. 24 to attend EFC’s Presidents Day to present the winning piece. Several other cash awards range from $250 to $150. The contest aims to re-introduce the evangelical movement to Canadians who don’t use the word “evangelical” much or know a lot about it. Details at LoveIsMoving.ca/Contest.

The FT Interview with Joy Smith

Joy Smith served as a Member of Parliament from 2004–2015 and is a leading advocate against human trafficking. She made Canadian history as the first sitting MP to amend the Criminal Code twice, passing two antitrafficking bills. The Joy Smith Foundation focuses on prevention and education efforts against trafficking in Canada and around the world. Smith spoke to Faith Today about her time as a parliamentarian, and the joys and challenges of that unique role.

Our Roman Catholic Neighbours

The EFC has posted a new 15-page resource called Our Roman Catholic Neighbours arising out of the Roman Catholic-Evangelical Dialogue co-hosted by the EFC and Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. It is a sister document to Our Evangelical Neighbours, produced by the Catholic bishops in 2016. The goal is for these two faith communities, who often work together on issues of shared concern, to understand each other better.
