In a recent Justice Committee meeting, MPs were discussing Canada's hate speech laws. An MP referred to some biblical texts as hateful. Government confirms stance on charitable status issue
The Finance Minister has confirmed the government “is not considering amending the Income Tax Act to remove the advancement of religion as a qualifying charitable purpose, nor is it actively developing policy on this issue.” The EFC has also received direct, official confirmation from the Finance Department. Women in the Canadian Evangelical Church
Potlucks & Pulpits is a new podcast from the Women in the Canadian Evangelical Church research project. In the first episode, researcher Lindsay Callaway joins cohost Murray Stiller to delve into women’s participation in Canadian evangelical churches, how the research was conducted and its findings and implications. EFC asks Justice Committee to support good faith religious belief defence
The EFC is asking the Justice Committee to support the good faith religious belief defence in the Criminal Code. The EFC’s written submission to the House of Commons committee also recommended some changes to the new hate crimes legislation, Bill C-9. See the EFC’s latest submission here.
