Court hearing for case about religious freedom, healthcare

Please pray for a court hearing in B.C. this week. Providence Health Care is being taken to court by a family and some euthanasia advocates who are challenging the government policy, which allows faith-based facilities not to provide euthanasia. The EFC’s arguments will be heard mid-week in support of freedom of religion for private religious healthcare institutions.

Bill C-218 to be debated this spring

A bill that would stop the expansion of MAiD for mental illness, Bill C-218, is likely to be debated at the end of April or beginning of May. The bill is on a list of private members’ bills that will come before the House of Commons in order; it isn’t assigned a specific date to be debated or voted on. Please continue to pray and contact your MP in support of the bill.

Bill C-9 in Senate

The House of Commons and Senate are both resuming this week after a two-week break. Bill C-9 is on the list of government bills to be debated at the Senate. Senators will debate the bill and then vote on whether they agree with it in principle. If the bill passes, it will go to a Senate committee to be studied. See the EFC’s update on Bill C-9 in the Senate.
