Life Insurance

Most people purchase life insurance as a way to protect their loved ones; it can be a source of replacement income for your family should anything happen to you.

However, it can also serve as a way to make a substantial donation to The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC).

There are many ways to donate to the EFC through your life insurance policy; as the donor, the type of donation you make will depend on your goals, your age and your family situation.
  1. Name the charity as the beneficiary of an existing policy. This is a good option if you already have a policy that your family no longer needs for financial stability. At the time of your death, the charity will receive the policy proceeds and your estate will receive the tax benefits.
  2. Transfer ownership of an existing policy to the charity and receive a charitable tax receipt for the cash value of the policy. If you owe annual premiums on the policy, you’ll still pay them, but you’ll also receive tax receipts in the amount of your payments.
Upon your death, the charity designated as your beneficiary or policy owner (or both) will receive the death benefit stipulated in the policy directly and without delay. As such, life insurance enables you to make a sizable donation without reducing the value of the assets in your estate.

Life insurance is an easy and flexible way of making a large donation to your favourite cause at a relatively low cost, and in the form of annual instalments (policy premiums).
