Election Do’s and Don’ts for Churches: Sign Up Now for Next Week’s Webinar

A federal election is coming in October. There are ways for Canadian church congregations—even those registered as charities—to be active participants in this extremely important democratic process. Join our webinar next Wednesday June 19, at noon EDT, to ask questions and learn more.

Our expert guests are Deina Warren, legal counsel for the Canadian Council of Christian Charities, and Julia Beazley, director of public policy for the EFC.

Register now for our webinar to get a reminder email.

Are you a pastor who has hosted an all-candidate meeting for an election? We’d love to hear about your experience, for possible involvement in our June 19 webinar. Email senioreditor@faithtoday.ca.

Three questions on the Ontario medical referrals decision

The EFC intervened in an Ontario appeal case on freedom of conscience that has implications across Canada. The case decision, May 15, 2019, was disappointing. As part of our Three Questions Series, we asked for some additional explanation from Derek Ross, the executive director and general counsel for Christian Legal Fellowship.

Feeding Reality Hunger

People don’t just need to hear the truth, argues Faith Today columnist John Stackhouse—they also need to be able to live it out in shared community. “Enquirers can experience that [community] only if (a) we are growing such communities and (b) we have deliberately opened ways for newcomers to experience them, to enjoy them, to feel them.”

The EFC Writes to Senators on Bill C-75

The EFC wrote to all senators on June 5 to ask for changes to Bill C-75. This bill would allow some serious criminal offences related to human trafficking and assaulting clergy to be considered as relatively minor summary offences. The EFC asked senators to stop these serious offences from being becoming hybrid offences. See the EFC’s letter to senators and other resources on Bill C-75 on our website.
