FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEB. 2, 2023–The board of directors of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is delighted to announce yesterday’s commencement of Dr. David Guretzki of Ottawa as the EFC’s new President and CEO.
Guretzki is the fourth full-time leader of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (l’Alliance évangélique du Canada), the national association of evangelical Christians in Canada. Estimates suggest Canada has between 2.3 million and 4.6 million Evangelicals, depending on the classification method used. Prior to 1983, the role of EFC president was a volunteer board chair role.
"David brings a credible track record of authentic presence and theological depth to the crucial conversations facing our nation,” says board chair Adam Driscoll of Moose Jaw, Sask. “We are looking forward to how he will empower the EFC team to sustain the core of the EFC that our affiliates have come to trust while innovating new and inviting priorities to expand the EFC’s God-honouring influence across our nation."
Guretzki, who served as the EFC’s executive vice-president and resident theologian since 2017, was selected and appointed president after a rigorous search process. Read more about him in his EFC staff profile webpage.
Guretzki will mainly be available for interviews after Feb. 15, before which he will be teaching a seminary graduate course on the theology of forgiveness and reconciliation.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (l’Alliance évangélique du Canada) is the national association of evangelical Christians in Canada. Since 1964 the EFC has provided a national forum for Evangelicals, fostered ministry partnerships, conducted research on religious and social trends and provided a constructive voice for biblical principles in life and society.
Many of its activities are channeled through two centres based in Ottawa – the EFC Centre for Faith and Public Life, and the EFC Centre for Research on Church and Faith – and a third based in Scarborough – the EFC Centre for Ministry Partnership and Innovation.
EFC affiliates include denominations, ministry organizations, post-secondary educational institutions and individual congregations, who uphold a common statement of faith and organizational “objects” (goals) and who often join in collaborative projects. The EFC also has thousands of supporting individuals.
