THE EVANGELICAL FELLOWSHIP OF CANADA ANNOUNCES NEW ROLES FOR SENIOR LEADERS
TORONTO/OTTAWA – The board of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) is pleased to announce new strategic roles for two members of its senior leadership team.
Effective January 31, 2023, Bruce J. Clemenger, who has served the EFC as president and CEO since 1992, will become Senior Ambassador and President Emeritus of the EFC.
David Guretzki, EFC’s current executive vice-president and resident theologian, will become the EFC’s CEO and President.
“We believe this is a win-win for the EFC and the Christian community it serves in Canada,” says Adam Driscoll, chair of the EFC board. “We are excited to have Bruce assume a strategically focussed statesman position, which is a new position for the EFC, and for David to exercise his expertise and passion for developing people and marshalling resources towards the mission of the EFC.”
During his tenure with the EFC, Bruce Clemenger oversaw the growth of the organization to its current composition of 48 denominational groups, 78 charitable ministry organizations, 34 postsecondary schools and hundreds of individual church congregations from a wide range of traditions. Most recently, Clemenger shepherded the development of two new strategic EFC centres to function alongside the EFC’s Centre for Faith and Public Life in Ottawa. He has supervised over 60 court interventions, including 30 before the Supreme Court.
“Part of his task now will be to tell that story of faith and public life engagement to the next generation of Evangelicals in Canada,” says Driscoll.
David Guretzki joined the staff of the EFC in 2017. Prior to joining the organization as executive vice-president and resident theologian, Guretzki served on the EFC board for nine years. He has served as professor, dean and vice president of external relations of Briercrest College & Seminary. He holds a PhD in Western Christian thought from McGill University, with several published books and numerous articles in systematic and historical theology and ethics.
Five years ago, Bruce Clemenger expressed his personal desire with the board to develop a well thought-through executive leadership transition plan for the EFC. The board struck the Future Needs Task Force which initiated a series of listening circles with groups of Christians across Canada. This process helped the board discern these important leadership decisions.
“We believe these two new appointments will elevate the skills, experiences and callings of Bruce and David, and will expand the ways in which the EFC responds to emerging opportunities and challenges,” says Driscoll. “We are grateful to God to have two exemplary leaders who are committed to stewarding the EFC with grace and wisdom.”

Since 1964 the EFC has provided a national forum for Evangelicals, fostered ministry partnerships, conducted research on religious and social trends and provided a constructive voice for biblical principles in life and society.
